Grammy Awards 2020: Lizzo, Alicia Keys, John Legend and others pay tribute to Kobe Bryant – Times of India

One of the most spectacular nights in the history of music started with a tribute to basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who lost his life in a tragic helicopter accident. While the news has shocked the entire world, Lizzo opened the show by dedicating the night to the NBA star as she said, “Tonight is for you Kobe” before crooning her song ‘Cuz I Love You’.

All the celebs from the music came together to pay their tribute at the Los Angeles’ Staples Center where he rose to fame and created history. Alicia Keys, who hosted the Grammys shared an honouring message for Bryant. She said, “Here we are together on music’s biggest night celebrating the artists that do it best. But to be honest with you, we’re all feeling crazy sadness right now because earlier today Los Angeles, America and the whole wide world lost a hero. And we are literally standing here heartbroken in the house that Kobe Bryant built.” Keys later collaborated with Boyz II Men to perform on ‘It’s so hard to say goodbye’ to celebrate Bryant’s life.

Later in the show, Aerosmith also paid their tribute to Bryant by holding up his white Lakers jersey while performing on the stage. Bryant’s popular yellow Lakers jersey was also a part of Lil Nas X’s act as he collaborated with Billy Ray Cyrus, Nas and BTS on the Grammys stage.

At the end of the show, huge portraits of Bryant and Nipsey Hussle had appeared on the screens while John Legend and DJ Khaled too joined the bandwagon of celebs who paid their respects to the legends. Keys closed the show on an emotional note as she said “Peace and love. God bless Kobe’s family, we love you.”
