Exclusive! Alaya F clarifies her stand on nepotism, says she is privileged but soon her work will speak for itself – Times of India

Bollywood actor Kabir Khan’s granddaughter and Pooja Bedi’s daughter Alaya F joins the bandwagon of star kids in Bollywood with her upcoming film, ‘Jawaani Jaaneman’. The budding actress recently hit the headlines with some of her hard-hitting statements on nepotism in a recent interview.
Opening up exclusively to ETimes on the much-debated issue in Bollywood, Alaya said, “I have never commented specifically on anything Ananya Panday or Janhvi Kapoor have said. I think everyone is very aware that nepotism is real and it does exist. Privilege is a real thing and it does exist. Not Anany, not Janhvi or anyone intends to make that less of an issue or not give it the importance it deserves.”

Elaborating further, she added, “My take on it is that we just have to be aware of the fact that we are privileged and our struggle isn’t as great as a lot of people’s struggles. So even in our struggles, it is nothing compared to what a lot of people have to go through.”

Alaya also stated that she hopes a lot of talented people get to enter the industry and she also hopes that sooner or later her work will speak for itself. “No one will look at an Alia Bhatt or a Ranbir Kaooor and say, nepotism. They are really good at what they do. So I will just acknowledge that it exists and work to a point where no one feels like I have gotten everything I have gotten because of my privilege,” she concluded.

Recently, Ananya was massively trolled when she said during an interview that she has not had it as easy as people think. She went on to say that her father neither appeared on Karan Johar’s chat show, nor in films backed by his production house.

Earlier, Alaya defended Ananya’s remarks in an interview with Zoom where she stated that she doesn’t think any of them don’t understand the concept of privilege, struggle and nepotism. She just feels that sometimes, it’s tricky in the way you put it out. It’s so easy for one-two words to go to the wrong place and for it to be misconstrued.
Alaya is making her big Bollywood debut with ‘Jawaani Jaaneman’ co-starring Saif Ali Khan and Tabu. The film will hit the theatres on January 31, 2020.
