Ather Energy to add 100,000 units in capacity to meet demand for electric two-wheelers
The company currently has a single manufacturing unit, with total installed capacity of 20000-25000 units in Bengaluru.
“We are in the midst of expanding our capacity in a pretty large way. We are looking at a sizeable space of around 400,000 sq feet in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Operations will start with initial capacity of 100,000 units in the next 6-9 months,” Ather Energy CEO Tarun Mehta told ET.
Production at the facility in Hosur will be ramped up in a phased manner, thereafter, depending on market demand.
The company – which launched electric scooter Ather 450X in the national capital on Tuesday with upfront price starting Rs 99,000 – expects to close next fiscal year (2020-21) with sales of 30,000 units. Mid-term Ather Energy targets growing annual sales to a million units.
Ather will initially sell the 450X in six cities – Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune. The company will expand footprint to four more cities, possibly Ahmedabad, Kochi, Coimbatore and Kolkata, in the next fiscal year.
